‘What is going on?’: Ciraldo’s Galvin comments questioned as Dogs go into ‘damage control’

Braith Anasta has expressed his disbelief at comments made by Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo on the “ridiculous” coverage and commentary around young recruit Lachlan Galvin.

The NRL 360 panel on Thursday night debated comments made by Ciraldo at a press conference.

“I don’t know why there’s so much attention on him or why it comes to that because we had a number of players last week who didn’t play the way they wanted to play, and unfortunately Lachie was in the headlines for a lot of that,” Ciraldo said.

Anasta said he could not understand where Ciraldo was coming from, given Galvin’s dramatic mid-season switch from the Tigers to the Bulldogs was one of the biggest stories of the season.

“I’m the biggest fan of Cameron Ciraldo but I can’t believe he’s shocked at the attention over this,” the NRL360 host Anasta said.

“What is going on? How are you shocked mate?

“Is he frazzled here? Can he keep it altogether going into the finals?

“Whether he wants to admit it or not, there’s a distraction.”

Fox League’s James Hooper also disagreed with Ciraldo’s stance, believing how Galvin’s situation unfolded this season warrants plenty of attention.

“The coverage has been totally fair and balanced,” Hooper said.

“The Dogs are in damage control and in denial if they’re trying to hose the fact that one of the most highly touted and publicised teenagers in the game walks out on the Wests Tigers the way that he does.

“He goes legal against the Tigers, ends up getting a mid-season release to join the club that’s on top of the ladder and forces two players out (Toby Sexton and Reed Mahoney).”

Galvin didn’t have his best game when starting in the halves last week with the Bulldogs coughing up an 18-point lead in a loss to the Broncos.

In a late change, Galvin was promoted from the bench, with Matt Burton shifting from five-eighth to centre.

A week later, Galvin has been pushed back to the bench with Burton to wear the No. 6 again.

“I do find it interesting the fact that Lachie has been pushed back into the No. 17 role this weekend,” Hooper said.

“Maybe they have some internal doubts about whether it’s had the right effect on the results at this point in time.”
